How our Apex Legends lessons work
Why our lessons focus on the Combat Fundamentals, how VOD review works, and what a typical session looks like.

In the world of Apex Legends, raw mechanical skill often gets all the attention - flashy movement and godlike aim. But if you’ve plateaued despite grinding for hours, you’re not alone.
Most players don’t fall short because they lack talent - they fall short because they don’t know what to improve, or how to work on it effectively.
At Novacry, our lessons aren’t about watching over your shoulder or giving empty motivational speeches. They follow a structured framework designed to make you your own teacher.
Learning outside the game: why it matters
Unlike typical in-game instruction, our sessions usually take place outside the game, using recorded gameplay footage. This separation from the pressure of live matches allows us to slow things down and dig deeper. You’ll gain clarity on mistakes, missed opportunities, and recurring patterns - things you simply can’t catch while in the middle of a chaotic fight.
We call this process VOD Review and it’s one of the most powerful (yet underused) tools in skill development.
The Novacry Framework: 3 Pillars of Apex Legends Mastery
Every player’s journey is different, but the skillset in Apex Legends can be broken down into three core categories:
- Mechanics
Aim, movement, looting speed; everything that requires physical execution. - Game-Specific Knowledge
Understanding rotations, meta weapons, legend matchups, map positioning, zone timing, and more. - Combat Fundamentals (The hidden bottleneck)
This includes decision-making under pressure, fight planning, positioning in combat, disengaging or committing, and reading enemy behavior.
Most players obsess over the first two and neglect the third — and that’s where we come in.
Why Combat Fundamentals Matter Most
Combat fundamentals are what separate a good player from a great one. Many clients come to us with solid mechanics and game knowledge but continue to die in fights they should be winning.
That’s usually because they lack a framework to:
- Read fights as they happen
- Pre-plan engagements
- Make conscious decisions under pressure
- Adapt to unpredictable situations
Our lessons focus heavily on developing these mental tools, because they lead to more consistent and intelligent play which is the kind that wins games.
From Review to Mastery: What a Session Looks Like
Here’s how we typically structure a lesson:
- VOD Review Using Your Own Gameplay
We’ll watch your recent matches or practice drills together, pausing key moments to break down decision-making, mistakes, and smart plays. We’ll teach you how to see the game like a pro. - Introduce Frameworks and Concepts
You’ll be introduced to practical tools and mental models that help you analyze fights, anticipate outcomes, and play smarter. - Personalized Drills and Assignments
You’ll leave each session with a set of drills tailored to the concepts covered. These might involve in-game practice routines, awareness drills, or even thought exercises to build habits. - Track Progress and Self-Reflect
Each session builds on the last. Over time, you’ll become increasingly independent - capable of analyzing your own gameplay and adjusting your practice.
The end goal: make you your own teacher
We’re not here to create dependency – we’re here to build your self-teaching muscle. When you understand what’s holding you back and how to fix it, you stop relying on “being hot” or lucky matchmaking. You gain control.
By the end of a few sessions, our clients walk away with:
- A deep understanding of their personal skill gaps
- A clear action plan for improvement
- Mental models to evaluate and adjust in real-time
- A new way of thinking about the game
